The European Union has asked the World Trade Organization to settle a dispute with Russia concerning the tax on car imports which the federation considered discriminatory.
The European Commission, the executive branch of the Union of 28 member countries, said the Russian tax have "serious consequences" on an important European industry, taking into account that the car industry makes a $ 10 billion Euros (13 billion dollars) to Russia.
The Commissioner of the European Union Karel De Gucht said the EU has used every means possible to find a mutually acceptable solution, "and added that Russia, however, continues to target EU exports arbitrarily.
The conflict between the two parties is subject to greater competition; Russia is trying to push countries of Eastern Europe like Ukraine to join her customs union rather than joining the European Union
De Gucht stated that he asked the WTO to form a committee to resolve the dispute awaiting a decision in the next few months.
