Mutual Military Escalation Between India and Pakistan… International Calls for “Restraint”

Tensions between India and Pakistan continued on Wednesday, with both sides reporting casualties in reciprocal shelling. The Pakistani military announced the downing of 5 Indian aircraft, including 3 French-made Rafale jets, in response to Indian strikes on Pakistani territory. Meanwhile, the Indian army confirmed the destruction of “9 terrorist camps” in Pakistan, emphasizing the avoidance of civilian harm.

The human toll rose sharply, with at least 26 Pakistani civilians, including children, killed in an Indian strike on a mosque in Punjab, while India reported 10 dead and 48 injured in shelling in Kashmir. The attacks also damaged Pakistan’s Neelum-Jhelum hydropower dam.

International Reactions:

  • China expressed “regret” over India’s strikes and urged restraint.
  • Russia warned against escalation and called for a peaceful resolution.
  • The US pushed for “de-escalation” through dialogue, while Trump hoped for a “quick” ceasefire.
  • The UN cautioned against military confrontation between the nuclear-armed neighbors, demanding maximum restraint.

The flare-up follows an April 22 attack in Indian Kashmir that killed 26, which Pakistan denies involvement in.
