Do you support the creation of a gulf union?

The Euro-Arab Center for Studies brings up in his electronic campus www.ceea.com from 16  to 22 / 12/ 2013 a debate about: “Do you support the creation of a gulf union?”

66 participants from different nationalities from the Arab world and the West, and who belong to various social strata Contributed to this dialogue. As a result of opinions showed that there are several points of view can be referred to it as follows:

1-40 participants or 60.6% support the creation of a Gulf union .They felt that the Union is a strategic balance of moderate states facing the Iranian influence in the region.

2-19 participants or 28.7% do not see the creation of a Gulf union.

3-7 participants or 10.6% are not familiar with the creation of a Gulf union.

The opinion of the Euro-Arab Center for Studies:

During the summit the Gulf States held in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia suggested to create a Gulf union for good cooperation between member countries, this union shall be considered an evolution in every regional block.

Oman had refused this idea and Kuwait chose not to react. Thus, the  idea has been referred to specialized committees to be discussed later.

The fact that all countries did not agree to this proposal is strange,  because it does not eliminate the sovereignty of any country, nor is it an invitation to establish a similarity between the countries, but it  a measure similar to the one of  EU countries which agree on a few interests and oppose on others, without this affecting cooperation, solidarity and coordination between countries,  in order to create an effective economic force on the international scene.

The Saudi proposal is not strange because the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council have capabilities which make them an effective economic force internationally, regardless of the ability of the union to respond to external challenges, on  international and regional dimensions.
